Sony Handycam DCR-DVD705

sony-handycam-dcr-dvd705The Sony DCR-DVD705 Digital Video HandyCam uses a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens for high quality video recording.  This video camera features a 12 x optical zoom and a 24 x digital zoom.  The Sony DCR-DVD705 Digital Video HandyCam has an Easy mode for beginners and a standard mode with a range of settings and modes for the more advanced photographer.  This Video Camera allows you to finalise the DVD in the camera for instant playback on a DVD Player.

Watch your home movies come to life like never before with the DCR-DVD205 DVD Handycam camcorder from Sony. Enjoy the extra large 2.7″ wide LCD screen, which swivels and adjusts to optimize the viewing angle for easy recording. Not only can you record digital video, but you can also capture quality digital still images at up to 1 Megapixel. Fully equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, you can capture professional quality digital video and images with enhanced color and clarity. The 12X optical zoom brings the action close with minimized distortion. The Super NightShot Plus infrared system lets you record in low light conditions. As with all of Sony’s DVD Handycam camcorders, you can conveniently record directly to DVD.

Sony’s DCR-DVD705 definitely fits into the former category. It’s lightweight, slim and extremely portable. This is the kind of camera you can carry around all day. We found the DCR-DVD705 a pleasure to use. All the buttons are in easy to reach places and the hand strap is of good quality and comfortable. Like most of Sony’s newer video cameras, the DCR-DVD705 sports a fairly large touch sensitive widescreen LCD. Almost every function of the camera can be accessed from the LCD, including recording and zoom. This is, in theory, a great idea. We found the touch screen navigation on Sony’s Mini DV cameras, such as the DCR-HC26E to be a breeze. However, Sony’s latest wave of DVD cameras has a different on-screen interface. We really feel that this interface is one of those occasions where the designers felt they needed to show off. So it’s out with the simplistic yet functional interface of old and in with rotating 3D barrels, spinning icons and vast numbers of buttons. Why Sony has done this we really don’t know. It just isn’t necessary at all; this is a video camera, not a games console.

Sony Handycam DCR-DVD755

sony-handycam-dcr-dvd755There seems to be an abrupt disconnect in the middle of Sony’s DVD Handycam line. On one side of the divide is the DCR-DVD755 and its lower-end siblings, with their puny 1-megapixel or lower-res sensors and inferior, plain-old Zeiss lenses. On the other side are the rich relations, starting at the DCR-DVD805, with its 3-megapixel sensor and high-quality Zeiss T* lens, and its even better-equipped brethren. These might seem to be trivial differences, but they end up making a significant difference in practice.

1/5.5″ 1.0 Mega Pixel CCD. Mega Pixel Engine. 2.7″ High Quality WIDE Hybrid LCD Screen. High Quality 16:9 Widescreen Recording. 16:9 Widescreen recording function for still pictures. Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens. Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator Technology. DVD+RW / -RW / -R Recording Formats. Memory Stick Duo Slot. 12X Optical / 800 Digital Zoom. PictBridge. USB 2.0. Start/Stop button on LCD Frame . Super Nightshot Plus. Easy Handycam. Active Interface Shoe. Easy Handycam.

On the subject of annoyances, there’s the 2.7-inch touch-screen LCD, which is too small for negotiating the menus; the plastic DVD drive cover, which always feels loose; and the weak battery, which seems to last between 20 and 30 minutes. The DVD755 allows you to finalize discs while on battery power, but given its short life, you probably should save that for video emergencies.

Unless this model has some unique, crucial feature that you can’t live without–and I can’t imagine what that might be–you’re better off with almost any other more highly rated model than the Handycam DCR-DVD755.

Sony Handycam DCR-DVD905

sony-handycam-dcr-dvd905The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD905 is a bit longer than typical compact MiniDV cameras such as Sony’s DCR-HC96 — relatively small but large enough to challenge some jacket pockets. Weighing in at 540g, it’s hefty but not so much so that you’ll have any problems holding it during extended shooting sessions. Its nondescript silver-and-grey chassis is constructed of thick plastic, which gives the camcorder a solid feel that should stand up well to everyday handling.

This SONY DVD905 can replce the following OEM Part No…Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the digital camcorder SONY DVD905 may require three to four charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity…Always store a Camcorder Battery pack in a fully charged staged for storage. When charging the SONY DVD905 for the first time.

The zoom rocker as well as the still-photo and record buttons are all comfortably located for typical one-handed shooting. Additionally, buttons on the LCD’s bezel let you start and stop recording and adjust the zoom. These touch-sensitive buttons are handy when holding the camera at unusual angles, where reaching the traditional zoom rocker and start button can be tricky.

The DVD drive sits on the right side of the unit and opens to the side, and the battery clips onto the rear, allowing you to easily swap discs and batteries while the camera is mounted on a tripod.

Canon HV10

canon-hv10.jpgOn the inside of the HV10, a 3-megapixel 1/2.7-inch CMOS sensor captures 1,920 horizontal and 1,080 vertical pixels for 1080i HD, or wide-screen SD, video. It down-samples the horizontal resolution to 1,440 when capturing 480i standard-def video. When capturing stills, it uses 2.76 megapixels (1,920×1,440) in 4:3 mode and 2.07 megapixels (1,920×1,080)in 16:9 mode. The HV10 couples the sensor with a 10X Canon HD video lens, a scaled-down version of the 20X lens in the XH series, which shares the optical characteristics of Canon’s professional L series of lenses.

It’s the promise of increased picture quality that will prove the major attraction for most people interested in high definition camcorders. The HV10, like the HDR-HC3, produces simply exquisite images. Both cameras use HDV tapes, which record video at a resolution of 1080i (1920×1080). This gives crisp, sharp images that are well beyond what you’ll get from any standard definition camera. We had no problems with compression artefacts, blurring or noise and there was no noticeable stuttering. Colour representation was also magnificent, with the HV10′s 3.1 megapixel CMOS sensor picking up detailed nuances and shading across the whole spectrum. Areas of high contrast were no problem either, with images in bright sunshine looking just as good as those in shade or indoors.

Despite any design annoyances consumers may find handling the HV10, the picture quality it captures is undeniably top notch. The camera records at 1080i/60 16:9 mode, using a 1/ 2.7″ CMOS chip with 2.7 mega pixels. The HV10 scored high marks with a -sharp-and vivid image. Along with sophisticated technology to help you capture great footage, the HV10 also has a host of attributes to further help you reach that goal.

The Canon HV10 comes with some impressive features such as Super-Range optical image stabilization and most impressively, the Instant AF (auto focus). With this feature, focusing only took less time to achieve a sharp and accurate focus. Instead of a gradual change from one focal plane to another, the instant autofocus simply snaps into the correct focal plane.
