If you don’t have an LCD monitor just quite yet, you’ve run out of excuses. You can get one now in the 15k ballpark – anything from petite little monitors for misers to 22-inchers that can double as a TV. The Samsung T220 is one such 22-incher.
Of all the affordable monitors out in the market, the T220 is the most expensive of the lot. It’s also, without doubt, the best looking. In design, it resembles Samsung’s 7 series LCD TVs. The frame is elegantly curved so there are no hard corners. Stylish, opaque plastic tinged with red adorn the edges. The power switch on the front is touch sensitive, which may seem like a superfluous feature, but in everyday use, it feels futuristic and luxurious.
When it comes to performance, the T220 is no slouch. Resolution maxes out at 1680×1050, giving you plenty of real estate to watch videos and surf and do your spreadsheet work – all at the same time. The 2ms response time is perfectly suited for gaming. We were hard pressed to spot the difference between the T220 and slower monitors, but we were glad it’s there. If there’s anything this monitor lacks, it’s the 120Hz refresh rate found in the latest televisions. You’re stuck at 60Hz, which is pretty standard.
Samsung hides all of the menu buttons along the right edge of the display; the only control on the front panel is a touch-sensitive power button (really, it’s just an icon). The onscreen display is straightforward and easy to navigate. You can also adjust the brightness, switch between analog and digital inputs, and select among seven image presets–Custom, Text, Internet, Game, Sport, Movie, and Dynamic Contrast–without entering the OSD.
Manufacturer’s specs:
Resolution: 1,680×1,050
Pixel-response rate: 2ms
Contrast ratio: 1,000:1
Connectivity: DVI, VGA
HDCP compliant? Yes
Included video cables? DVI, VGA
Features
Underneath its shiny exterior, the Samsung T220 has a sparse feature set. You get the basic pair of VGA and DVI ports; no HDMI here. Also missing are USB ports and a Webcam. If those features are important to you, we’d direct you to the Dell SP2208WFP.

AOC Luvia e2237Fwh features an ultra-slim cabinet tapering to just 22mm thickness, with a beautiful “floating bezel” design and luxury crystal-clear frame that bring fresh fashion to the widescreen industry. The ultra-high dynamic contrast ratio of 20M:1 (DCR) allows the user to see darker areas of content in more depth. The “i-care” sensor system will adjust the screen brightness automatically based on ambient lighting, to reduce eyestrain and save power. Multiple input connections – Analogue RGB, DVI-D and HDMI – with built-in speakers, make e2237Fwh great for business and personal use.
The 2237Fwh resembles an all-in-one desktop, with wide black bezel and a clear plastic surround that also acts as the front portion of the stand. A single leg allows ten degrees of tilt – there are no other adjustments possible. If colour adjustment is your thing, however, the AOC is your new best friend. Apart from a selection of preset colour temperatures you can adjust each colour individually. However, if you delve into the unintuitive OSD, you may need breadcrumbs to find your way back to the defaults.
Fortunately, the default settings provide for decent image quality. Colour accuracy was adequate, and images were crisp and clear. Gradients show only minor banding, and while the default contrast settings blow out in brighter areas, shadows and darker gradations are well delineated. A 5ms response time is fine for business use, but probably won’t
suit gamers.

The Samsung PX2370 23″ widescreen LCD-LED backlit monitor is elegance defined. Showcasing a Touch of Color charcoal-gradation finish and a profile of just 16.5 mm thin, the PX2370 is pure elegance. The PX2370’s images are best-in-class, as well. The LCD-LED backlight produces mega dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 for unprecedented detail. Fast 2 ms (G2G) response and 1,920 x 1,080 full HD resolution yield the sharpest images. And with 100 % sRGB color standard reproduction, color will be displayed as it was meant to be displayed. It’s the pinnacle of elegance and performance. The Samsung PX2370 LCD-LED monitor.
You tell the PX2370 where you are sitting in relation to the monitor (presumably through the OSD) and it adjusts the contrasts and brightness to make the image as visible as possible from that angle. Apparently it is very useful for watching films if you want to lounge back at some obscure angle, but it is not some kind of magical and automatic fix to eliminate the inherent viewing angle issues that plague TN panel technology.
There is no mention of one of our favourite new features of the Samsung SyncMaster PX2370; the ambient light and proximity sensors which turn off the monitor when nobody is using it. Instead Digital Versus decided to comment on “poor upscaling” of regular resolution DVDs on the PX2370 – something that probably has more to do with the graphics card and DVD codec than the PC monitor. Still, any flaws in the image are probably that little bit more noticeable with the brilliant contrast and brightness that the PX2370 offers.
