Motorola RAZR V3X

motorola-razr-v3x.jpgThe phone features perform well. The look is as elegant as Motorola wants it, a good bright screen, the little LED light in front that blinks every time it charges and receives incoming calls or messages. However, the 2.0 megapixel camera, which should be in a good quality, might not seem to satisfy your appetite in taking photographs. The picture is not that clear compared to other camera phones which have the same megapixel. How about the software? It has a nice navigating menu system, though users may experience software problems. In weeks time, the phone will begin to freeze, turns off or resets itself because of no service from your network and worst is it doesn’t turn on for a couple of minutes. However, Motorola released a software update to fix these problems. But too bad, the update is not available for download here in the Philippines, it was released in U.S and Europe. You should go to the nearest Motorola outlet for them to fix it. In addition, the battery life is quite poor; you may need to charge it at the end of everyday. Overall, the rating of Motorola V3x is a passing mark. The V3x has the most brains and brawn among its RAZR siblings. Although it’s heavier and thicker compared to its predecessors, at least it doesn’t feel as though it’ll break into pieces when you put it in your back pocket. With a shell that’s more macho than the RAZR-standard fasyon, it still looks good with extra pogi points thanks to its improved text-friendly comfy keypad.

Once opened, this 3G clamshell reveals an über-brilliant large TFT display. Even the little arcs of the fonts are visible while typing. All this detail means using the main display as a viewfinder can be misleading. Granted, capturing still shots with its 2-megapixel camera yields satisfactory photos – in fact, it produces rich indoor photos even without its photo-light. With video, though, playback of clips reveals that they aren’t as clear as they seemed while shooting them.

The unit’s loudspeaker is located at the back, which makes MP3 playback muffled when the phone is on a table or even when you’re using the phone, as the speaker tends to be covered by your palm. But this isn’t such a nag considering that this speaker’s output isn’t so pleasing to the ear anyway. When it comes to sound during phone calls, though, the prototype we reviewed gave off a tiny shrill sound that only the person at the other end of the line could hear. It got even less pleasing whenever we overstretched the clamshell’s hinge while conversing, as apparently, doing so let out a loud creaking sound. The Motorola RAZR V3x’s intuitive multimedia offerings include real-time 2-way video calling, photo capture and editing, and large color display. Additionally, the Motorola RAZR V3x features SCREEN3, an innovative technology giving users zero-click access to news, sports, entertainment, and other content directly from their mobile device home screen. Strutting a sleek, slim design and premium functionality, the Motorola RAZR V3x exudes multimedia perfection.Riding high on the success of its RAZR line of phones, Motorola’s V3x is set to capture the hearts of many looking for a slim and sleek 3G capable phone. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a 3G network at the moment, so this review will be based on the GSM capabilities of the V3x, and, of course, how it functions primarily as a phone.

The V3x is a Dual Mode phone, featuring WCDMA/GSM operation, and tri-band GSM coverage (GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA 2100 MHz networks). The V3x is capable of switching automatically between bands and modes.Motorola Razr V3x was nominated Best 3G mobile phone at the recently celebrated 3GSM congress. Razr V3x is the best equipped non-OS Motorola Phone ever. Certain internet retailers already added Razr V3x to their online offers several weeks ago.t’s worth mentioning that our review sample was a prototype so there may be software changes before final production, but we were more than able to make an extensive appraisal of the phone. The handset was also 3 flavoured so we browsed and downloaded content from the increasingly slick Today on 3 portal. As far as we know, the phone will also be available on Vodafone 3G.

Motorola HT820

motorola-ht820.jpgThe HT820 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones is one of the latest Bluetooth enabled products by Motorola. Even though US adoption of Bluetooth technology has been lagging the rest of the world, it is clear by Motorola’s product lineup that they are committed to this wireless standard. This technology is the future for wirelessly connecting all kinds of consumer grade audio devices together. Having a company like Motorola behind the standard is excellent news for all who would like to shed wires once and for all. The HT820 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones support the Bluetooth version 1.2 standard profiles for Advanced Audio Distribution (A2DP), Audio Video Remote Control (AVRCP), Hands Free (HFP), and Hand Set (HSP). Let’s see how well these headphones perform and wear!

The HT820′s styling gives the impression that the designers have been watching far too much Star Trek. A totally superfluous pulsing blue “M” sits on each earpiece, making the user look slightly ridiculous and presumably wasting battery power. In addition, the headphones spurn the usual headband and opt for an oh-so-trendy neckband. The main difference this makes is that the weight of the earpieces is placed on your ears, rather than your head. For short periods of time this isn’t a problem, the HT820s sits nicely in place and feels comfortable. For extended periods we found the neckband’s rubber pads to be uncomfortable, leading to sore ears. The headphones are fairly small and light though, meaning that they wouldn’t be awkward to carry about. Using the included rigid carry case would make things a bit bulkier.

Sporting a $120 price tag, the 820 weighs in at a svelte 3.5 ounces, which makes for a fairly light headset. It’s designed along the lines of the street-style headphones where the set wraps around the back of your head and hangs off your ears. Despite the light weight, you may find that the headset becomes uncomfortable with the earpieces acting like anchors, digging into your head. Though the experience is far from unbearable, it’s annoying nonetheless. Considering what you’re getting out of it, however, that small issue is worth dealing with. Pairing the headphones to a Bluetooth equipped phone or mobile device is an easy process, as you simply hold down the button on the left ear piece to place it in pairing mode, set your device to its pairing mode and once a connection is made, you’re good to go. Battery life is pretty solid, lasting about 12 hours while constantly listening to music, with the ability to retain a charge while in standby mode for days on end. Packaged with the headset is a 2.5mm to 3.5 mm cable, allowing you to have the headphone double up as a standard wired headset to help things along when the battery runs out but you want to keep the music going.

Lightweight and ergonomically designed, the Motorola HT820 provides premium communication and music connectivity with minimized background noise and reliable battery power. Jam to music streaming from any similarly enabled media player, receive calls without messing with your tunes, and toss out all those cumbersome wires clogging up your life.

Motorola KRZR K1

motorola-krzr-k1.jpgThe styling of the KRZR has been updated, with a reflective glass-coated surface that makes the KRZR stand out from the crowd (and acts as a magnet for fingerprints, by the way!) Although it’s a fashion phone, it has a well thought-out design, with a functional (if small) keypad, and good ergonomics. However, the glass used is fragile and can scratch, crack or shatter, even when treated carefully. We have never before encountered a phone where so many users have reported a broken screen. This is obviously a design fault or manufacturing defect.

In addition to it’s pretty looks, the KRZR has high spec features too. The main internal display is a high quality TFT screen with 262,000 colours and the same resolution as the RAZR: 176 x 220 pixels. The external display is rather poor, though, being of inferior CSTN technology which fades in bright sunlight. The integrated camera is 2 megapixels with an 8x digital zoom and a built-in picture editor, but no flash. There’s also a video recording capability at CIF resolution, with a maximum duration of 25 minutes per clip. The absence of a flash is a disappointment, and limits the use of the camera. Next up is the music player. This supports MP3, AAC and AAC+ formats with stereo output to headphones via mini-USB or wireless Bluetooth. The KRZR isn’t the best music player phone, as there is no support for drag and drop file transfer and only mono output from the built-in loudspeaker. Still, it does the job. MP3 tracks can also be used as ringtones.

The Motorola KRZR K1 comes with preloaded games for the user to enjoy at their leisure. The phone comes with a simple & clear calendar along with an easy to manage phone book. The user can create their phone book which will contain all their contacts details. The user can save, edit & delete information quickly & easily. The flight mode feature allows the user to access their phone book & listen to music whilst on a flight. The user can receive, create & send text messages, multimedia messages & emails on their Motorola KRZR K1. The user can send messages to friends which have a fun & real feel to them by using the multimedia message service. The MMS service can contain a photo or video footage & can be sent to any MMS compatible user. The user can add text & sound to give the MMS message its finishing touch.

The quad band technology allows the user to use their phone worldwide over GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 & GSM 1900 dependant on the network provider. The phone will switch between the four bands automatically. The KRZR K1 provides the user with up to three hundred hours of standby time on the battery & up to six hours of talk time. The phone supports EDGE technology which will provide a fast speed data transfer & Bluetooth® technology which will provide a wirefree connect between devices.

Motorola RIZR Z3

motorizr-z3.jpgMerging an innovative slider design with an impressive feature set, the MOTORIZR delivers a dynamic mobile package for those socially active, on-the-go consumers who demand style, fun and adventure.

Again, this is trailing behind the best screens from Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Nokia, but is good enough. The music player is good quality and handles a wide range of music formats, including MP3, AAC and AAC+. An optional Bluetooth stereo headset is available.

You can drag and drop music files onto the card after connecting the phone to your PC via the included mini-USB cable. And in the Rizr Z3’s airplane mode, you can listen to your music without activating the cell phone while flying. Audiophiles take note: The phone may not play files whose bit rate is above 128 kbps. When played over the external speaker, songs sounded quite tinny.

Uniquely crafted, the MOTORIZR features a thin, narrow slider form factor with familiar finishes, rich housing materials and a multi-modal design for using the phone in both the open and closed positions. Appealing to the senses, this sleek new device boasts exceptional imaging, vivid color screen, enhanced music features and global connectivity. By offering the desired functionality in a familiar, easy to use design, the MOTORIZR is the companion for effortless style and entertainment on-the-go.

The RIZR features the latest version of Motorola’s user interface, and is perhaps less awkward to use than older Motorola phones. The RIZR is not the highest spec phone available, but holds its own against other phones in this price range. The camera is a 2 megapixel device and is as good as anything Motorola have produced previously, but not in the same league as the latest top-of-the-range phones from other manufacturers. There’s a video recording option and an MPEG4 video playback feature in the media player. The display is a good quality TFT screen with 262,000 colours and a good resolution of 176 x 220 pixels.

The design of Motorola RIZR is typical for their models which come with a lettered name. On the front panel we can see the Motorola M sign just above the 256K TFT display. The thick thumb-rest for assistance of the sliding process is just beneath the display and the only thing that completes the front panel is the set of buttons in the very bottom. There is a four-way key with a confirming center which is well known from the first RAZR V3 model. Surrounding it are two soft keys, a Browser button, a C back button and the green and red “receivers”, which in the case of Motorola are round symbols.
