Complementing the front screen is the equally as fun to use face-detection feature. Turn it on, and you can make your mug look sharper than everything else in the photograph, instantly making you look like a celebrity, albeit not even on the D-List. If you don’t want to be the lone focus of the photo, however, you can set it to multiple face detect, so in a group shot, the person unfortunate to stand at the back, or the one unfortunate to stand beside a mestiza, will not have to look like a shadow.
Contrary to the candid shot is Blink Detect. Turn it on, and the PL101 will automatically take a second shot when it detects that the subject has blinked. Pretty impressive, but sadly, you can’t expect photos to be totally blink-free. Unless you have the flash on, subjects won’t know that a safety shot is being taken, so for all they care, they can have their eyes closed while the camera takes the safety shot, making the shot doubly embarrassing (or doubly funny). Also, the camera only takes 2 pictures in succession, so if your group doesn’t get it right the second time, you’re screwed.
Which shouldn’t be a huge hassle because if anything, camwhores are great at taking pictures and being the subject of their pictures; they can hold that smile just as good as they hold a camera with an outstretch arm and take a photo of themselves from the most flattering of angles.
With the PL101, all they need to do is to hold that smile. Because the 1.5 inch LCD takes care of the angles, and the wizardry of the Face Detect takes care of what little else that may matter to the camwhore. They can even stand the camera on any flat surface and angle it so that they don’t have to crouch in all together to make sure everyone – or even just herself – fit in the frame perfectly. Why such hullabaloo to camwhores? It’s because the PL101, with its for-play features and that all-too-welcoming tune that plays upon turning it on, is clearly made for them.
It’s not for the socialite or for whom looks matter. It’s not for the hardcore gadgeteer for whom the make and the form matter. It’s not for the photography enthusiast for whom extra nifty features matter. It’s for the camwhore who likes to look cute in photos that they themselves took.

Why put up with just the one when everything goes better with two? We’re talking LCD screens. The latest glossy addition to Samsung’s burgeoning range of so far unique ’2View’ cameras, coming after the ST500 and ST600, the 14.2 megapixel ST100 features not only a comparatively huge 3.5-inch, high resolution 1152k dot resolution version with a widescreen aspect ratio at the back, but additionally a small 4:3 ratio 1.8-inch screen at the front.
It also has movie capability, which shoots at 30fps and 1280 by 720 pixels and a variety of different shooting modes, from the Smart mode which recognises a scene and chooses all the settings for you to the Program mode, which allows you to select things like the ISO setting and change the exposure compensation. There are numerous face detection modes, one of which will take a photo when it sees a smile – this actually works very well as you can sit frowning all day and it will not shoot, but as soon as you smile, it sends out a pre-flash and gets a shot. There’s also another mode which detects blinks and takes 2 shots to avoid closed eyes on a shot. There are many such features on the ST100 to make it a fun camera to use; there are even two fisheye effects to choose from!
The camera also contains an internal motion sensor which can be used to detect when you move the camera in a specific direction. This allows you to quickly switch between shooting modes by moving the camera in different directions. If you press the mode change button and tilt forward, you’re in Movie Mode, tilt backwards, it’s in Program and to the left, Smart Auto. This really does save time and button presses when you want change scene.
It’s the same size and ratio of LCD we were used to finding adorning the rear of digital cameras at the dawn of the millennium. The second smaller screen is not only potentially useful for lining up self-portraits with greater accuracy, by displaying the image before the lens or a cutesy animation it could also distract never-stay-still pets and kids long enough for you to get that quick snap. Other key spec includes High Definition video capture – here the usual 1280×720 pixels at 30 frames per second (with additional 15fps option) – plus a broader than average light sensitivity range stretching from ISO80 to ISO3200, should you want to risk low light shooting without flash.
Samsung’s most compact dualscreen camera to date, the ST100 is quite different from past models in this line. While sharing almost identical specs to the new ST600, the ST100 uses an internal 5x optical zoom lens, and is noticeable smaller. Like the ST600, it features a larger 1.8-inch front LCD screen, allows you to share images with your subjects or easily capture self-portraits.
The ST100 boasts 14-megapixels of resolution, a 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD on the back of the camera, smart face recognition, and 720p HD video capture. The Samsung ST100 will come in black or pink.
Samsung ST100 key features include:
- 14.2 Megapixels
- Internal Schneider KREUZNACH 5x Optical Zoom Lens
- 3.5-inch TFT Touchscreen LCD
- 1.8-inch Front LCD screen
- High Sensitivity) up to ISO 3200

The Samsung Wave 525 will not win any design awards with its plain black rectangular shape with chrome-like accents, such as a thin rim around the phone. The capacitive touchscreen screen is 3.2″ with 240×400 pixels of resolution, which makes the interface and websites look scraggy, and average sunlight visibility. Underneath it is the home button, flanked by send and end keys. There is a volume rocker on the left, microUSB port and 3.5mm audio jack on top, as well as a lock/power button plus a dedicated camera key on the right. Don’t ask us why bada phones have a separate shutter key, while their Android brethren by Samsung only have virtual camera buttons, as we can’t answer that on behalf of the company.
The phone features a 3.2? capacitive TFT touchscreen. The physical size of the screen is – 70×42 mm (2.91?x1.65?) and the resolution is 240×400 (WQVGA). It is bright with maximum viewing angles. The dimensions of Samsung Wave 525 (109.5 x 55 x 11.7 mm (4.31?x2.16?x0.46?) are comparable with those of other inexpensive touchscreen models of the company and the majority of modern phones. The phone is comfortable to hold in hands. It is not heavy, so you do not get tired during the conversation. You can carry it in any pocket or a bag.
The back hosts the 3MP camera, and replaces the usual glossy black plastic Samsung is using in most of its handsets of late for a dotted pattern one, which makes the phone less slippery to handle. The phone lies comfortably in the hand, and is fairly thin and light at 4.31 x 2.17 x 0.47” (109.5 x 55 x 11.9 mm), and 3.53 oz (100 g) of weight. The back cover is pretty prone to smudges and visible marks from everyday use, despite that it is not glossy plastic, but a simple wiping takes it all away. The Samsung Wave 525 will be available in three colors – black, white and pink.

The Samsung Champ (C3303) is a fun, affordable touchscreen phone. I don’t know why Samsung named it Champ since it doesn’t really do any one thing that good aside from being cheap for a touchscreen phone.
The front of the Champ is mostly occupied by the smallish 2.4” resistive touchscreen with the QVGA 240×320 pixels of resolution. Visibility under direct sunlight is not very good, mainly on account of the screen size rather than the brightness and contrast, which are about average for the display type. Underneath it are three physical buttons in a row – the send and end key plus a back button in the middle. The most interesting elements in the front, though, are two speakers – above and below the screen, which are supposed to ensure stereo sound. Don’t expect marvels from them in terms of both volume and quality, but the experience is indeed stereo.
A nice touch is the industry standard 3.5mm audio jack on top, allowing you to use better-sounding earphones. Located beside the audio jack is the microUSB port for charging and data transfer. An attached flap reveals the port, then snaps back in when nothing is plugged in.
When in standby mode, the Champ is activated by pressing the dedicated unlock button on the right side of the screen. Press the unlock button once, and the screen lights up with a lock icon displayed on the bottom left. Hold the unlock icon for half a second and the screen unlocks, giving you full access to the screen controls.
Samsung S3550 Shark Slider is an all rounder slider phone with all the features that make your work easier. The chrome-look phone comes with a 2 mega pixel camera, music player, FM radio with RDS and bluetooth connectivity with Stereo Audio Streaming technology. Furthermore, you can also access all the Instant Messaging and Social Networking Sites that keep you in touch with everyone wherever you go.
The lustrous Samsung S3550 Shark 3 mobile phone is the third set declared by the company in Shark series. This set features much talked about DNSe enabled speakerphone, 2 G network phone and the company says it not labeled without of reach price. In fact, this set is expected to be the cheapest in Shark series of mobiles from Samsung. Metallic patterned back cover of the set makes it look more like classy handsets. Although S3550 does not hold too many high-end features, the outer form appears to push it in the class of smart looking set of choice. Further, users will be pleased with single touch access to social networking sites, distinctive feature of the Shark series. The set has sharp camera, expandable memory, and FM Stereo radio with RDS and Bluetooth features.
Worth noticeable is company’s company’s strategy to make it a demanding set for social networking when others are in the race for high-end touch screens. S3550 is a set packed with upfront advance features. Samsung S3550 Shark is a 2G enabled phone with GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 for support. The display has no exceptional feature, but common 240 x 320 pixels TFT screen of 2.0 inch. It is again a normal 256K colour screen. Even at Internal memory capacity of 35 MB, the Phonebook has comparable fitness for 1000 entries and features Photocall. The call recording features to make of 30 received calls, 30 dialed numbers and 30 missed calls. The 35 MB internal memory should not be a cause of worry since this set has a card slot for microSD (TransFlash). The maximum expandable memory goes up to 8GB.
Memory feature is the most crucial factor of any mobile phone. There could be several attractive features and applications in a handset, but to use them properly, adequate memory back up is necessary. Think of a situation that your mobile phone include excellent gaming features and you want to download lots of games to keep you hooked for long time. After downloading a few games, your handset display a message that the memory is full and it cannot install more games. Then, there is no point in using such a gaming handset that cannot install sufficient games. Hence, good memory back up is a must. Samsung S3550 does not promise to be a dedicated gaming mobile phone or a music device, but still its memory features are quite good. The built in memory of Shark 3 is 32 MB that can store 1000 phone book entries and 30 dialed, received, and missed call list. For using other applications, the handset comes with a card slot of micro SD that can enhance the memory externally up to 8 GB.
