The Chronofighter Oversize ‘Titanium SAS’ is a new timekeeping creation from Graham. This is an oversized watch with a titanium case measuring 47 mm in diameter. The large camouflage dial offers perfect legibility, even in the dark. The dial is completed with the distinctive polished steel indexes shaped as a ‘Stealth’ bomber with Superluminova inlays.

The Graham Chronofighter Oversize ‘Titanium SAS’ accommodates the new automatic G1734 bicompax calibre with continuous small seconds and a 30-minute counter.  The date function is presented via a window at 7 o’clock. One more advantage provided by the movement is a 42-hour power reserve.

At 6 o’clock you will notice the embossed SAS coat of arms and motto. The seconds counter is found at 3 o’clock, while the 30-minute counter is at 9 o’clock.

This particular model is the “Chronofighter Oversize Titanium SAS.” You can ignore the oversize part. I hate use of the term. See my article on “oversized” here. The watch is 47mm wide. Oversized would imply it was 47 inches wide. That actually would be oversized. The fact that it has “titanium” in the name, would imply that it is titanium, which it is. A trait that makes this watch on its green rubber strap impossibly light feeling. Inside the watch is a modified automatic ETA Valjoux 7750 movement known to be the Graham G1734. Basically, it dispenses with one of the dials making this a 30 minute chronograph. Bicompax chronographs (two subdials) are arguably more attractive that that standard three subdial layout of the Valjoux 7750, but 12 hours of functionality are sacrificed, allowing for a mere 30 minutes of counting.

Being a British company, Graham probably wanted the change to create a watch homage to the SAS (Special Air Service). This Air Force like branch of the English military was formed during WWII to fight against the Germans, and the icon emblem lives on, being featured on the dial of the watch. This watch is also a limited edition of only 300 pieces, which will likely found their way to many select stores for your viewing pleasure.

‘SAS’ in the name of the Graham watch implies the ‘Special Air Service’ that was established during World War II by the British Army members and the RAF. The service operated generally in Northern Africa in special actions against the German troops commanded by Rommel. Its emblem depicts the legendary winged sword Excalibur featuring the motto ‘Who dares wins’.
