Nautilus SelectTech Dumbbells

37.jpgAlthough not the first company to create a selectorized dumbbell system (or what SNEWS® likes to call a multi-weight dumbbell system), Nautilus has certainly done one of the sleekest and smartest jobs so far. And, dang, it looks good too!The SelectTech is a set of two dumbbells, each that can morph with the flick of a knob into any weight from 5 to 52.5 pounds each. That means that whether you’re a novice who needs 5-pound weights or a beefy muscle man who wants to curl 50 pounds, the SelectTech will take care of your needs. And instead of having an entire rack of weights or maybe one or more handles you have to constantly load, unload and reload with different plates, you have it all in one trim system.

Just shy of 16 inches in length, these dumbbells are pretty long. Unlike the PowerBlocks or Ironmaster, the length of the dumbbells remains the same regardless of the weight you select. This can be awkward and might take some time to get used to since the dumbbell is very long, even at 5 lbs.The weight on the Bowflex dumbbells can adjust from 5lbs to 52.5lbs. Because of the maximum weight of only 52.5 lbs, you might be better off with the PowerBlock Elite Set or the Ironmaster adjustable dumbbell set if you plan on building huge muscles and getting super strong (the maximum weight on those dumbbells is about 120-130lbs).The system is also quite adaptable. The weights adjust in 2.5 pound increments until they reach 25 pounds. At that point they adjust in five pound increments. Hence, the system can be used by beginners and fairly serious weightlifters.
